Project Equip Field Trip

January 20, 2012 in News

Yesterday, the students were able to go on a field trip to four of our mentor’s places of business.  They started off the day by going to the San Jose Police Department where one of the students’ mentors works.  He showed everyone around the building and was able to talk toward the importance of education and writing for the student’s future.  The next stop on the tour was Polycom.  Mr. Pritchard, another one of the mentors, was kind enough to give us a tour of the facility there including some very impressive video communication technology.  Being a marketing executive, Mr. Pritchard spoke to the importance of marketing and the need for a company to be able to change and adapt for the current market.  The third stop on the tour was at Roth Wood Products.  There, Mr. Roth and Mrs. Farnham, both mentors, gave us a tour of the facilities and the students were able to see a very different kind of business from Polycom and the Police Department.  Being a family owned business, it was much smaller, but the students were able to see everyone’s different jobs and responsibilities and how each person was integral to completing a project.  The last stop on the trip was the Morgan Hill City Hall.  Two of our mentors, Mayor Tate and the city manager, Mr. Tewes, gave everyone a tour of the facilities and fielded all the questions that the students had.  All the students and adults who went were impressed and learned a great deal.  We at Crossroads would like to thank all of the mentors for opening up their places of business to us and making it such a wonderful day!
